León, León!
I´m back from Leon! Overall I had a great time!
I have to describe my experience this past week as “I´m lost!” Why?
1) the city is HUGE, 2) I literally got lost on the bus multiple times looking for the church by my house (they didn´t tell me there are 17 churches in Leon!), 3) My contact at the university wasn´t in town so I didn´t really get to see UNAN, and 4) my counterpart teacher at the instituto was doing grades all week so I didn´t get to observe him teaching as much as I would have liked, and 5) there are so many twists and turns in the local market!
)
No worries, though. I have 2 years to learn my way around! And it was fun… I know I´ll like it there.
But I am definitely sad to be leaving my host family here in Masatepe. I´ve gotten fairly close to them in the last 3 months. We laugh, we know one another´s quirks, we sit on the porch for hours just chatting. Now I have to leave them and start all over with a new family. They seem cool + I know I´ll like it there too, but I´m happy where I am now. I´m not excited to have to start the whole process of getting to know my host family all over again…
I am excited that training is over + I´m finally going to get to start my job, though! These last few months have been intense. Mucho espanol. Training session after training session. Teaching here + teaching there. And a whole lot of funny / embarassing / memorable stories due to tiredness, lack of Spanish vocabulary, cultural learning, + pure stupidity!
I can´t wait for my new adventure in Leon to begin!
I officially swear-in as a Peace Corps volunteer this coming Monday!
Next post from Leon…
